What Is Enclosed Transport?
How enclosed carriers work
Enclosed auto transport loads your vehicle into a fully enclosed trailer — similar in concept to a moving truck — where it is completely protected from external elements during transit. The trailer blocks wind, rain, road spray, and debris that open carriers are exposed to.
Enclosed trailers typically carry 2–6 vehicles depending on size, compared to 7–10 on a standard open carrier. This lower capacity is the primary reason enclosed transport costs more.
Many enclosed carriers use soft tie-down straps that cradle the vehicle by the tires rather than attaching to the frame — a preferred method for vehicles with custom paint, body kits, or other modifications where standard hooks would create contact points.
When enclosed transport makes sense
Classic and vintage cars
Older vehicles with original paint, chrome, or trim that would be difficult or impossible to repair if damaged deserve the extra protection.
Exotic and luxury vehicles
High-value vehicles where peace of mind is worth the premium. Enclosed transport is the industry standard for exotics.
Custom and modified vehicles
Aftermarket body kits, custom paint, and lowering kits all create reasons to choose enclosed transport over open.
Show cars and competition vehicles
Vehicles being transported to shows or competitions where condition is critical benefit from enclosed protection.
Vehicles with low ground clearance
Low-slung sports cars and some luxury sedans may not clear the ramps on standard open carriers. Enclosed trailers with lift gates solve this.
High-mileage or late-model exotics
Vehicles where the cost of any road damage would significantly exceed the incremental cost of enclosed shipping.
Common questions about enclosed transport
